The movement of heaven is full of power.
Thus the superior man makes himself strong and untiring.

天行健君子以自强不息:A gentleman should constantly strike to become strong just like the evolution of the universe.

乾知大始,坤作成物。
天地最开始是没有形状的,也没有任何动作,所以只是说“知”。有了成型的物体后,才能开始制造,所以说“作”。
家父说:知就是为,为就是作。乾是最初的开始,万物因此而有源头。坤培育出物品,万物因此而产生。
周语说:”知晋国之政“。知政,说的就是为政。”三年而知郑国之政“。高诱注说:”知的意思好比为。“

周易有些难

  “乾知大始,坤作成物。乾以易知,坤以简能。易则易知,简则易从。易知则有亲,易从则有功。有亲则可久,有功则可大。可久则贤人之德,可大则贤人之业。易简而天下之理得矣。天下之理得,而成位乎其中矣”。
  对于“乾知大始,坤作成物;乾以易知,坤以简能”,韩康伯注解为:“天地之道,不为而善始,不劳而善成,故曰易简”。孔颖达疏解为:
  “‘乾知大始’者,以乾是太阳之气,万物皆始在于气,故云知其大始也。‘坤作成物’者,坤是地阴之形,坤能造作以成物也。初始无形,未有营作,故但云‘知’也。已成之物,事可营为,故云‘作’也。‘乾以易知’者,‘易’谓‘易略’,无所造为,以此为知,故曰‘乾以易知’也。‘坤以简能’者,‘简’谓‘简省凝静’,不须繁劳,以此为能,故曰‘坤以简能’也。若于物艰难,则不可以知,故以易而得知也。若于事繁劳,则不可能也,必简省而后可能也。”
  对于“乾知大始”的“知”和“坤作成物”的“作”,韩康伯没有直接作出解释,“不为而善始,不劳而善成,故曰易简”,言简意赅,或许是受到《中庸》“不见而章,不动而变,无为而成”的影响。而孔颖达的疏解完全曲解了原意,并且还参杂老氏之学。如果“乾是太阳之气,万物皆始在于气,故云知其大始也”,世界有一个绝对的开端,“天下有始,以为天下母”,那么就不能说“神无方而易无体”了。“乾知大始”,“知”即是“大始”,这是“显诸仁”,《中庸》谓“诚则形,形则著”,“不息则久,久则徵”。“知”是“成物,知也”,“知”是“诚者自成也”,所以才是“易无体”。惟有“易无体”,才能“藏诸用”,否则就会像船山所批判的:“不善言道者,妄立一体而消(万物之)用以从之”。
  “坤作成物”的“作”字是否也有微言大义?“知”是“诚者自成也”的“无为而成”,“作”则是有为。或许《系辞传》的作者是以“作”字表示“坤”的“成物”不是“至诚无息”,而是“其次致曲”,“曲成万物而不遗”。下文说“易则易知,简则易从”,而不是“简则简从”,说明“坤”是以“乾”为“始”,也以“乾”为“终”,所谓“易从”,即“从易”。“坤”是“其次致曲”,“久则徵,徵则悠远”是以“乾”为“始”的“易知”,“悠远则博厚,博厚则高明”是以“乾”为“终” 的“易从”,“曲能有诚”即是“简”。“简”是“不远复”,但毕竟是“反之”,而不是“性之”。“夫坤,其静也翕,其动也辟”,“坤”之成物存在着开合出入;“夫乾,其静也专,其动也直”,“乾”则是无息的。
  孔颖达说“若于物艰难,则不可以知,故以易而得知也。若于事繁劳,则不可能也,必简省而后可能也”,把“知”“易”“能”都解释错了。“坤以简能”的“能”是“成物”的意思;“易”不是“容易”,“易”是“易体”,“易”以“知”为“体”,其实即“易无体”。
  对于“易则易知,简则易从;易知则有亲,易从则有功”,韩康伯注为:“顺万物之情,故曰有亲。通天下之志,故曰有功”。孔颖达疏为:
  “‘易则易知’者,此覆说上‘乾以易知’也。乾德既能说易,若求而行之,则易可知也。‘简则易从’者,覆说上‘坤以简能’也。于事简省,若求而行之,则易可从也。上‘乾以易知,坤以简能’,论乾坤之体性也。‘易则易知,简则易从’者,此论乾坤既有此性,人则易可仿效也。‘易知则有亲’者,性意易知,心无险难,则相和亲,故云‘易知则有亲’也。‘易从则有功’者,于事易从,不有繁劳,其功易就,故曰‘易从则有功’。”
  孔颖达曲解了“易” 和“简”,“易”是“易略”,“简”是“简省”,自然也不能把握“亲”和“功”的内涵。韩康伯说:“顺万物之情,故曰有亲”,即“乾道变化,各正性命”。“易知则有亲”,乾元的“知”是推动万物运行变化的原动力,是“万物资始”,“知”是“始”也是“终”,其实是“诚者,物之终始,不诚无物”,“知”展现生生不息的大用,所以“有亲”,而不是“性意易知,心无险难,则相和亲”。《中庸》云“凡有血气者,莫不尊亲,故曰配天”,乾元的“有亲”表现为“高明,所以覆物也”。
  “易从则有功”,惟有成物、化物才是“有功”,而成物是始于条理还要终于条理,即“天下之理得,而成位乎其中矣”。惟有返于乾元的“始”或“一”,才能成物,才有功,这个“返”即“易从”(从易)。“成之者,性也”,往而不返是不能成物的。孔颖达说“‘易从则有功’者,于事易从,不有繁劳,其功易就”,是完全错误的。“有亲”是“显诸仁”,“有功”是“藏诸用”。
  “有亲则可久,有功则可大”。韩康伯注解为:“有易简之德,则能成可久可大之功”。孔颖达说:“‘有亲则可久’者,物既和亲,无相残害,故可久也。‘有功则可大’者,事业有功,则积渐可大。此二句,论人法乾坤,久而益大。”然而“久”与“大”不能理解分别为抽象的时间和空间上的长久和博大,“有亲则可久”是《中庸》“至诚无息,不息则久”;“ 有功则可大”是“久则徵,徵则悠远,悠远则博厚”。
  “可久则贤人之德,可大则贤人之业”。韩康伯说:“天地易简,万物各载其形;圣人不为,群方各遂其业。德业既成,则入于形器,故以贤人目其德业”。孔颖达说:“‘可久则贤人之德‘者,使物长久,是贤人之德,能养万物,故云‘可久则贤人之德’也。‘可大则贤人之业’者,功劳既大,则是贤人事业。行天地之道,总天地之功,唯圣人能。然今云贤人者,圣人则隐迹藏用,事在无境。今云‘可久’‘可大’,则是离无入有,贤人则事在有境。故‘可久’‘可大’,以贤人目之也”。韩康伯和孔颖达都解释了为什么这里用“贤人”,而不是“圣人”,但《中庸》云“至诚无息,不息则久”,而“至诚”是圣人境界;孟子说“充实而有光辉之谓大,大而化之之谓圣”,所以“可久”“可大”决不是“离无入有”的贤人境界。其实“贤人”的“贤”字为动词,“日新之谓盛德,富有之谓大业”, “可久”是“日新”;“可大”是“富有”。
