The notorious cheap skate finally decided to have a party. Explaining to a friend how to find his apartment, he said, "Come up to the fifth floor and ring the doorbell with your elbow. When the door open, push with your foot."
"Why use my elbow and foot?"
"Well, gosh," was the reply, "You're not coming empty-handed, are you?"

A2 第7课 The Earthquake
Johnny lived with his mother and father in a small town in the mountains.
One day there was an earthquake near the town.Many houses were damaged.Everyone thought that there would soon be another earthquake.
They were worried that the second earthquake would be worse than the first.
"We must send Johnny to a safe place,"Johnny's mother said to her husband."Many of our friends are sending their children to relatives in other towns."
"We'll send him to my brother,Peter,"Johnny's father said."He lives a long way away.Johnny will be safe with him."
He telephoned Johnny's Uncle Peter and asked him if he would let Johnny live with him.
"He's a good boy,"he said."He won't give you any trouble."
"All right ,"Johnny's Uncle Peter said,"but I'm not used to children.I live a very quiet and peaceful life."
"You won't know Johnny's in the house,"his father told him.
So Johnny,who was five ,went to live with his uncle.
Two days later,his mother and father received a telegram from Peter.
It said :"Am returning child .Please send earthquake."

Many of them wrote to her,telling her how wonderful she was,how much they loved her and wanted to marry her.
Jenny kept all these letters.She tied them up with a red ribbon and put them away in an box.She never looked at them as she was happily married,however ,they were a part of her life and she did not want to throw them away.
Jenny had a daughter,Sue.Sue was six.
One day,Henny had to leave Sue alone for half an hour.
"Now be a good girl,"she said."Play quiely.If you need anything,go to the lady next door."
When she retured home ,she asked Sue,"Have you been a good girl?"
"Oh,yes,Mommy,"Sue said.
"What did you do while I was out?"Jenny asked her.
"I played mailman,"Sue told her.
"How could you play mailman.darling?"Jenny asked."You didn`t have any letter."
"Oh,yes I did,Mommy,"Sue said."I found some in an old box upstairs.They were tied up with a red ribon.I put one in every mailbox in the street .Wasn`t I a good girl?"
