正如被Luke (1997:11)所提议的，多元读写能力要求与横向相连接的、嵌入式的和紧密联系资源以及理解想法中的联系的多式联运阅读。因此文化的范围也会影响读和写的能力。
我想无论如何花园里普通的蜗牛是没有像家养鸽子那样有强烈的回家的方向感。但它们的确有这样的本领。
这首诗的名字不叫"The Rain it Raineth Every Day"，它出自Shakespeare剧本“Twelfth Night”第五幕小丑的唱段。这段唱完后整个剧就结束了。所以这一段文字并无题目，被引用时多用第一句“When that I was and a little tiny boy”做题目。其实这段唱词并没有什么太多的寓意，是一场喜剧结束前小丑的“结束唱段”(closing song)，有点象中国的剧里结束前最后来一段“警世恒言”，只不过莎士比亚用的是逗乐性的。
按照我的理解，这个唱段的意思是：
When that I was and a little tiny boy, (At the time when I a little tiny boy当我是个小小男孩)
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, (I said hey, ho and there was the wind and the rain 嘴里喊着“嘿，嚯”，与风雨为伴，这里的嘿嚯是形容小男孩发出的感叹声)
A foolish thing was but a toy,(the only foolish thing I had was a toy可爱的东西只有玩具)
For the rain it raineth every day.(because it rained everyday 因为雨啊每天下个没完)
But when I came to man's estate,(but when I grew up and became a man 但是当我成了男子汉)
With hey, ho, . . .(and said hey, ho 嘴里喊着“嘿，嚯…”)
'Gainst knaves and thieves men shut their gate (people shut their gate to keep off the knaves and thieves 为防流氓小偷人们把门关。'Gainst就是against的简写)
