A major difference between the systems is that in the UK you begin university a year later and you have both the GCSE and A levels; whereas in the states you have one school leaving degree and then go on to a four year university. I am the opposite and am American but have done my higher education (MA and PhD) in the UK and I've never had a problem with those degrees being acknowledged in the US.
American education offers a rich field of choices for the international student. From abroad, and even from within the U.S.A., there is such an array of institutions, programs and locations that the choices may overwhelm the student. To simplify the choices, a student must carefully study how each program and location can fulfill the student‘s goals. In order to make informed decisions, a student will need to know how the U.S. education system is organized.


Primary and Secondary School: Begins around age six for U.S. children. They attend five or six years of primary school. Next they go to secondary school, which consists of either two three- year programs or a three-year and a four-year program. These are called “middle school“ or “junior high school“ and “senior high school“ (often just called “high school“). Americans call these twelve years of primary and secondary school the first through twelfth “grades.“

Higher Education: After finishing high school (twelfth grade), U.S. students may go on to college or university. College or university study is known as “higher education.“ You should find out which level of education in your country corresponds to the twelfth grade in the U.S.A. You also should ask your educational advisor or guidance counselor whether you must spend an extra year or two preparing for U.S. admission. In some countries, employers and the government do not recognize a U.S. education if a student entered a U.S. college or university before he or she could enter university at home.

Study at a college or university leading to the Bachelor‘s Degree is known as “undergraduate“ education. Study beyond the Bachelor‘s Degree is known as “graduate“ school, or “postgraduate“ education. Advanced or graduate degrees include law, medicine, the M.B.A.,

Keep in a good mood

In my opinion , everyone wants to keep in a good mood and feel happy everyday . However, we cannot ignore the fact that we must face all sorts of people and various things. What they say or do will have an effect on us and some of the things will make us unhappy. Especially we may meet with some unexpected difficulties which will make us feel depressed. At this moment, our good mood suddenly becomes terrible. In that case, What should we do? How can we keep in good mood? Here are some tips which can assist us to keep in good mood.

Firstly, to have a good state of mind is the most important thing. We must be open-minded, optimistic and have a lenient heart. We should learn to adjust when we faced something unpleasant. To recover our mood in a short time. For instance, listening to some sweet music or reading a good book also helps . Why not have a try? Who knows? Maybe it’s effective on you.

Secondly, we should form a good relationship with other people and make more friends with others. You’d better keep in touch with them frequently. It’s amused for you to have a large number of good friends .

Finally, we should be kind-hearted and be thoughtful ,Friendly to everyone and everything. Such people can bring laughing and happiness wherever he goes! It goes without saying that you are in a good mood!

　　It is vividly depicted in the cartoon that a boy is running along the racetrack with painstaking efforts, sweat pouring down his face. After a long journey, he is making the final spurt toward the finishing line, with strong determination to become the champion. It seems that he could rest for a while to enjoy the ecstasy of victory. However, straight ahead lies a sign which indicates a new "starting point" and urges him to continue rushing to the next destination.
　　Undoubtedly the cartoon conveys the meaning that life is like the process of running in which one should make constant efforts and never stop making progress. Owing to the quickening pace of life, competition goes increasingly fierce in all walks of life, stimulating everyone to pursue one goal after another. Once a person stops making progress, he can hardly maintain his past glory and survive in this competitive world. As Deng Xiaoping, the great Chinese leader said, "development is the only way." No matter how powerful a country is, no matter how successful a specific institution, it will definitely seek new development in high speed. Generally speaking, neither a country nor a person can remain stagnant.
　　A case in point is the successful launching of "Shenzhou V Spacecraft" which sets china in a high position of aviation and space flight. Although it means a great achievement for us Chinese, we are facing new challenges in the future and need to do further research in space technology. Another illustration is closely related to us, the examinees. If we pass this test and are fortunately admitted by a university, we shall not stop making efforts. Instead, we are confronted with the challenge of conquering the difficult graduate courses. We still have to strive for success in our future academic study, employment and career. On the whole, these examples effectively clarify the saying that "destination is another starting point." (317)

Most of us have formed an unrealistic picture of a destination of our life. We sometimes imagine a destination to be a sort of paradise where the sun always shines. Every one wants to get there. The other side of the picture is quite the opposite. A destination is a start of another section of life. You may have no time to enjoy the happiness of completion but hurry up to go to the next step. Perhaps there is an element of truth in both these pictures, but few of us have had the opportunity to find out.

　　What does the author of the drawing intend to tell us? In my opinion, by the picture he means that what one has achieved so far is merely a new starting point for what he is going to do next. 　　There are a lot of examples to support my view. The most obvious one is the discovery of the radioactive element radium, which means the successful result of Curie’s research work. Yet it is just a good beginning of the scientific study on atomic energy. Let take another example to illustrate the view. We have achieved great success in rural reforms, which has greatly raised the living standards of farmers in the country. But it serves only as the starting point for pushing forward urban reforms in a comprehensive way. In conclusion, it seems obvious that the finish of a thing signifies a new scratch of another one.
