Irangate伊朗门事件伊朗门(irangate)伊朗门事件是和水门事件类似的一个丑闻,新闻记者把它等同于水门事件,称呼为伊朗门事件。
1979年,伊朗宗教领袖霍梅尼发动所谓“圣战”推翻了亲美的巴列维王朝,建立伊朗伊斯兰共和国。国王巴列维于同年10月22日赴美治病之后,愤怒的伊朗学生要求美国引渡前国王,结果遭到拒绝。当年11月4日,霍梅尼的军队冲进美国大使馆,扣压了69名美国外交官,目的是以此为要挟,换取巴列维回国受审,并废除1959年签订的伊美安全条约。
卡特总统营救人质失败。但当选总统里根却通过秘密关系与伊朗达成“以军火换人质”的协议;于是,在他宣誓就职当天,就有52名人质被释放。1986年11月,里根政府违反国会法律,向伊朗秘密出售武器,换回了其余人质。同时又将出售军火所得款项的一部分暗地里用于支持尼加拉瓜反政府军。
这一丑闻揭露后,舆论哗然,新闻记者立即将这一事件比为又一个水门事件,称之为“伊朗门事件”。

1975年轰动美国内外的水门事件发生后,Watergate一次可用来指任何类似的政治事件或大的丑闻。例如:

Teapot Domeegate蒂波特山丑闻,茶壶顶丑闻。指1923年美国总统哈定任内的的内部长福尔所犯的石油舞弊案。他将怀俄明州的茶壶顶和加利福尼亚州艾尔克山的海军石油保留地秘密租给私人公司经营而从中受贿,事发后被判刑入狱。此事发生在水门事件(Watergate)之前,以前均作Teapot Dome scandal。

Lancegate兰斯丑闻。指1977年美国卡特政府任预算局长的(T.)Bert Lance因被揭露有不正常的金融行为而被迫辞职一事。此事发生在水门事件以前,以前均作(Bert)Lance Affair。

1993年克林顿任总统后陷入更多的丑闻:
Whhitewatergate白水丑闻。即“白水开发有限公司事件”,是一桩涉及美国总统克林顿夫妇的经济案件。1978年,当时均为律师的克林顿夫妇与麦迪逊储贷担保所老板麦克杜格尔夫妇在阿肯色州合办“白水卡开发有限公司”,专门从事房地产生意。1991年9月该公司申请破产。美司法部于1994年出开始调查相关问题,包括克林顿夫妇与合作者之间的财务关系。
1996年5月28日,阿肯色州地区联邦法院“白水事件”陪审团宣布:“与白水案有关的现任阿肯色州州长塔克和麦克杜格尔夫妇犯有欺诈罪。”6月18日,“白水事件”调查委员会宣告调查结束。但是共和党和民主党公布的调查报告,却对涉及“白水事件”的几乎所有问题做出了截然不同的结论。

Travelgate履行办公室人事丑闻。1993年克林顿总统上台不久,就将白宫旅行办公室主任Billy Dale等人解职,并控告他们挪用公款,然后安排其一个远亲接替Dale的职务。经过调查,联邦法院宣告Dale等人无罪。此事使克林顿夫妇遭到共和党人和舆论的强烈批评,并称之为丑闻。

Zipgate拉链门,性丑闻。源自美国总统与白宫实习生莫妮卡.莱温斯基(Monica Lewinsky)的桃色事件,并因此而导致国会对克林顿弹劾案的大辩论,使他险遭弹劾。
