1. TOEFL
TOEFL考试每一位申请到美国留学的申请人（无论是申请本科、转学、研究生）都必须提供的考试成绩，TOEFL成绩虽然不作为一个奖学金评定的重要标准，但它却是一个基本的要求。虽然在少数的学校中，TOEFL成绩会被TSE（英语口语测试）成绩替代，但如今TOEFL的地位仍然没有降低。在中国大陆的申请人中，有不少拿TOEFL与TSE两个成绩同时申请奖学金。一般来说TOEFL分数要高于申请学校的最低分数要求，最好能够超过600分。
2. IELTS
雅思考试 （IELTS - International English Language Testing System， 国际英语语言测试系统）是一种较全面地针对听说读写四项能力的、为打算到英联邦国家学习、工作或定居的人们设置的英语水平考试。在英国，雅思考试的认可度超过其他任何一种英语考试，国际学生可以使用雅思成绩申请任何学校、专业及职业机构。它获得了英国院校的100%认可，是众多英国名校衡量申请者语言水平的优先选择，也成为英国技术移民签证申请的语言能力证明。对于申请学校和机构的考生来说，雅思是最佳选择。在澳大利亚，加拿大，香港，雅思考试得到广泛认可。雅思考试也受到诸多亚洲国家的认可，例如：马来西亚、新加坡等，并且是欧洲（例如：荷兰、瑞典、芬兰等国家）众多院校英语授课项目首选的英语语言能力证明。
3. SAT
SAT是其他国家高中生申请进入美国大学本科学习能否被录取、 能否得到奖学金的重要参考。包括数学、美国语文（阅读）、写作。每部分 800 分，时间共 3 小时，写作45 分钟。 满分 2400 分。申请参考：达到515分，阅读达到502分，写作达到494分。美国大学倾向选择650分甚至更高的学生。数学成绩为650-700分甚至更高的学生。名校往往招收总分高于2000分的学生。
4． GRE
GRE考试是研究生的入学考试，它适用于除了法律（需参加LSAT考试）与商业（需参加GMAT考）以外的各种学科与专业的研究生考试。GRE考试分为两种，一种是普通GRE考试（GRE General），也就是大部分中国学生参加的GRE考试。另一种是专项GRE考试(GRE Subject)。参加GRE专项考试的中国考生并非很多，因为大多数美国院校不要求提供专项GRE成绩，只要求普通GRE成绩。但申请研究生专业与申请人本科专业不一致的申请人，是需要提供专项GRE成绩的。例如A君在中国获得某大学物理专业学士学位，希望到美国改读经济硕士学位(Master of Arts in Economics),那么就需要提供GRE经济专项考试成绩，如果希望改读生化硕士学位，就需要提供GRE生化专项成绩。如果本科所学习的专业与申请研究生专业相同，一般不必提供专项成绩。
5. GMAT
GMAT考试是申请美国研究生商业类专业所提供的考试成绩。专业包括，会计学(Accounting),工商行政管理学(Business Administration)，市场学（Marketing)、经济信息学(Economic Information）、金融学(Finance)、货币银行学（Monetary Banking)等商业类各专业。需要提出说明的一点是，经济学(Economics)不属于商业类(Business)，而属于文科类(Arts)。因此希望申请经济学专业研究生，要提供GRE成绩。
6. LSAT
LSAT是美国法律硕士研究生的入学考试，这项考试1994年2月第一次在中国大陆举行，目前全国只有北京一个考点。LSAT只有阅读、逻辑、分析三部分。

7. TSE
TSE是英语口语测试。如今，许多学校都开始重视这项考试成绩，有些已经把TSE成绩作为申请研究生必须提供的成绩，也有一些把TSE作为助教金资助(Teaching Assistantship)的衡量标准。TSE考试在中国一年也举行四次，分别在1月、5月、8月和10月。
