the way 和 in the way 引导从句时的区别
在定语从句中the way做先行词时in which和that的区别为：意思不同、用法不同、侧重点不同。
一、意思不同
1、in which：在其中。
2、that：用于某些动词、形容词和名词后，引出从句。
二、用法不同
1、in which：which用作关系代词，可引导限制性定语从句或非限制性定语从句，引导非限制性定语从句时which可以用整个主句作为其前行词，相当于and that，有时还可引导不定式短语从句。
2、that：that用作连词时可引导主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句、同位语从句和状语从句。that还常引导间接引语或形容词后面的从句。
三、侧重点不同
1、in which：the way做先行词时in which和that可以互换，还可以不填。
2、that：that在这里是指代“the way”，此时that指代作宾语的the way，严格来说that不做成分。
the way+从句"结构在英语教科书中出现的频率较高, the way 是先行词, 其后是定语从句.它有三种表达形式:1) the way+that 2)the way+ in which 3)the way + 从句(省略了that或in which),在通常情况下, 用in which 引导的定语从句最为正式,用that的次之,而省略了关系代词that 或 in which 的, 反而显得更自然,最为常用.如下面三句话所示,其意义相同.

一.在当代美国英语中,the way用作为副词的对格,"the way+从句"实际上相当于一个状语从句来修饰全句.

1)I'm talking to you just the way I'd talk to a boy of my own.

他没有象他朋友那样去做此事.

二."the way+从句"还常用作主语,宾语,表语,或宾语补足语

言语固然重要,但人的站姿,抱臂的方式和手势也回告诉我们他(她)的情感.

三.在当代美国英语中,"the way+从句"也常作为状语,相当与"in any way(that or in which)+从句或in any manner in which +从句", 其含义是"不管/不论用什么方式".

四.在美国口语中, in the same way , in this(that ) way, in another way 等词组里的in经常省略.
1)They plant the corn the same way their ancestors used to do 500 years ago.

他朝着这(那,另一)边走了.

五.one's way 用作状语
1).come one's way撞见某人,与某人不期而遇.
Six years passed and no singinig jobs came Pavorotti's way.
六年过去了,帕瓦罗蒂还是没有找到一份以唱歌为职业的工作.
2)see...one's way看法与某人一致
We won't see it your way.

（2）in the way which/that/省略... 后面加的的定语从句。是做way的定语。翻译成用“什么样的”方法。引号里面“什么样的”就是从句的内容。

（2）He got the first prize in the way that is accepted by the majority of people.他以大多数人都认可的方式赢得了第一名。 （定语从句）
