e.定语从句 - The way how he looks at the problem is wrong.

the first began in the nineteenth century and extended into
the early twentieth century when it was recognized for the first time
(that food contained constituents that were essential for human function)
and
(that different foods provided different amounts of these essential agents).
第一个that和第三个that并列，都是主语从句。
第二个是定语从句。that是从句的主语。

How 可引导如下从句：1.主语从句－－How he come here is a mystery.
2.宾语从句－－I don't know how we can get there so soon.
3.表语从句－－It was how we learned so much in so short a period.
4.状语从句－－No matter how he begged , the boss didn't care.
第一个不加be。
第二个，修饰的是The radio and the book ，因为后边用的是are；第二问还是一样，n the shelf修饰的是flower and cup，要不然就是带着半句废话的话，人类的思维不是这样的。
第三句话一看就是中国英语，老外这么说话会被人问：你为什么放弃治疗？but是连词，其他不是。
第四个问题感觉应该是singles吧？单身的。总之看不到整句话不迷噶比什么意思。
第五问： on their own ground修饰the project 。
