lives /is living/has been living 根据不同的时间状语，可以有不同的时态
无论是哪种屈折语，动词是屈折变化最复杂的一种，有人称和数的变化，英语也不例外。英语动词有五种基本形式，就是：动词原形、第三人称单数现在式、过去式、过去分词和现在分词。这五种形式和助动词一起构成动词的各种时态、语态和语气。当主语是第三人称单数，时态是一般现在时，动词的形式应该是第三人称单数现在式。如：

第三人称单数现在式一般由动词原形加词尾-s构成，它的拼写应该根据以下情况做相应的变化：
以发咝擦音的s、z、ch、sh、x等辅音字母或者辅音字母加元音字母o结尾的动词，后面要加词尾-es，如：
pass--passes 通过，传递
buzz--buzzes 发出嗡嗡声
catch--catches 抓住，赶上，接（球），传染（感冒或其它疾病）
push--pushes 推
mix--mixes 混合
go--goes 去
以辅音字母加y结尾的动词，先把y变为i再加上词尾-es，如：
carry--carries 携带
try--tries 尝试
有一些动词的第三人称单数现在式是不规则的，如：
be--is 是
have--has 有
