陈球字伯真，下邳淮浦人也。球少涉儒学，善律令。阳嘉中，举孝廉，稍迁繁阳令。
复辟公府，举高第，拜侍御史。是时，桂阳黠贼李研等群聚寇钞，陆梁荆部，州郡懦弱，不能禁。太尉杨秉表球为零陵太守。球到，设方略，期月间，贼虏消散。而州兵朱盖等反，与桂阳贼胡兰数万人转攻零陵。零陵下湿，编木为城，不可守备，郡中惶恐。掾吏白遣家避难，球怒曰：“太守分国虎符，受任一邦，岂顾妻子而沮国威重乎？复言者斩！”乃悉内吏人老弱，与共城守，弦大木为弓，羽矛为矢，引机发之，远射千余步，□杀伤众。贼复激流灌城，球辄于内□地势反决水淹贼。相拒十余日，不能下。会中郎将度尚将救兵至，球募士卒，与尚共破斩朱盖等。
光和元年，迁太尉，数月，□日食免。复拜光禄大夫。明年，为永乐少府，乃潜与司徒河间刘郃谋诛宦官。
初，郃兄侍中鯈，与大将军窦武同谋俱死，故郃与球相结。事未及发，球复以书劝郃曰：“公出自宗室，位登台鼎，天下瞻望，社稷镇卫，岂得雷同容容无违而已？今曹节等放纵为害，而久在左右，又公兄侍中受害节等，永乐太后所亲知也。今可表徙卫尉阳球为司隶校尉，以次收节等诛之。政出圣主，天下太平，可翘足而待也。”又，尚书刘纳以正直忤宦官，出为步兵校尉，亦深劝于郃。郃曰：“凶竖多耳目，恐事未会，先受其祸。”纳曰：“公为国栋梁，倾危不持，焉用彼相邪？”郃许诺，亦结谋阳球。
球小妻，程璜之女，璜用事于宫中。节等颇得闻知，乃重赂于璜，且胁之。璜惧迫，以球谋告节，节因共白帝曰郃等常与藩国交通有恶意数称永乐声势受取狼籍步兵校尉刘纳及永乐少府陈球卫尉阳球交通书疏谋议不轨。帝大怒，策免郃，郃与球及刘纳、阳球皆下狱死。球时年六十二。

陈球字伯真，是下邳郡淮浦县人。陈球年轻时就广泛阅览儒学经典，擅长于律法政令。阳嘉年间，被推荐为孝廉，渐渐升迁为繁阳县令。
后来陈球又被公府征召，（经过）考试及官吏考核成绩优秀，被授予侍御史的官职。这时候，桂阳狡猾的贼寇李研等人聚集贼众强抢掠夺，横行荆楚一带，当地州郡官军怯懦软弱，不能禁止（他们）。太尉杨秉上表推荐陈球为零陵太守。陈球到任后，制定征讨的方法与策略，一月之间，李研等贼虏就被消灭驱散了。州兵朱盖等人反叛，跟桂阳的贼寇胡兰等几万人转而攻打零陵。零陵地势低洼潮湿，用木桩排列起来作为城墙，不能守卫防备，郡中的人惊慌失措。下属官吏对陈球说，要他遣散家属避难，陈球发怒说：“太守分掌国家的虎符，接受任命（治理）一个地区，难道可以只考虑（自己的）妻子儿女却败坏国家的威势吗？再说（这种话）的人就杀头！”于是（陈球）集合所有官吏，包括年老体弱的，与他共同守卫城池，给粗大的木头安上弦作成弓，把长矛装上羽毛制成箭，拉动机关发射，可以射到一千多步以外，被这种武器杀伤的贼虏很多。贼虏又引河水灌进城内，陈球就在城内借助地势反过来放水淹贼。双方对抗了十多天，贼虏没法攻下（零陵）。适逢中郎将度尚率领救兵赶到，陈球招募士卒，与度尚一起击破了朱盖的部队，并斩杀了朱盖。
光和元年，（陈球）升为太尉，几个月后，因为出现日食现象被免去官职。（后来）又被授予光禄大夫的官职。第二年，就任永乐少府，于是暗中与司徒河间人刘郃谋划诛灭宦官。
起初，刘郃的哥哥侍中刘鯈，和大将军窦武一同谋划（诛灭宦官），都被宦官杀死，所以刘郃与陈球联合起来（共同谋划）。事情没有到动手的时候，陈球又写信劝刘郃说：“您是宗室的后代，地位在三公之首，被天下的人所敬仰，是国家的卫护者，难道可以随声附和容忍（宦官专权）不加反对？现在曹节这些人极为放肆成为（朝廷的）祸害，况且（他们）一直在皇上的左右，还有您的哥哥刘侍中也被曹节等人害死，这些都是永乐太后知道的。现在可以上表调卫尉阳球做司隶校尉，依次收捕曹节等人（然后）杀掉他们。（这样），国家的政令（重新）出自圣明的君主，天下太平，很快可以到来。”同时，尚书刘纳因为正直触犯了宦官，降职为步兵校尉，（他）也对刘郃尽力劝说。刘郃说:“凶恶的宦官有很多耳目，只怕事情还未准备好，就先被他们祸害了。”刘纳说：“您是国家的栋梁，国家将要倾覆了，您不扶持，还要（您）这辅助的人干什么呢？”刘郃答应了，也与阳球一同谋划。
陈球的小妾，是程璜的女儿，程璜在皇宫里面做事。曹节等人稍微得知了（一些刘郃等人的谋划），就对程璜用重金贿赂，并且威胁他。程璜很害怕，又被胁迫，（就）把陈球的谋划告诉了曹节，于是曹节等人对皇帝说：“刘郃这帮人经常与藩国交往互通，有不好的企图。多次宣示永乐太后的声望势力，接受（贿赂）很多。步兵校尉刘纳和永乐少府陈球、卫尉阳球交往互通书信，图谋商议犯法作乱。”皇帝大怒,下诏罢免刘郃，刘郃与陈球及刘纳、阳球都被关进了监狱并被处死。陈球当时六十二岁。

Of all the festivals, the Spring Festival is the most important in China.
Several days before the Chinese New Year, people clean out their houses, take down the old pictures and put up new ones.
