1.The Spring Festival
The Spring festival is the most important festival in China.It is on January 1st according to the Chinese lunar calendar.It's China's New year's Day So usually a month before the festival,people begin to buy food clothes and decorations for houses.
On New Year Eve ,each family will gather together eating,talking and watching TV for almost the whole night.The children are the happiest of all because they can get presents from their parents or grand-parents.
On Lunar New Year's Day.pepole will eat dumplings.When they meet their neighbours or friends,they'll say;"Happy New Year!''The New Year celebrating activitise will last about half a month.
春天的节日春节是我国最重要的节日.它是根据1月1日在中国农历日历.它是中国中国新年一个月前的一天,通常是在节日,人们开始为装修房子买衣服和食品.新年前夕,每个家庭都会聚在一起吃饭、谈话、看电视几乎整个晚上.孩子们最高兴的,因为他们可以得到来自父母或带来大的父母.农历新年中国人喜欢吃饺子.他们的邻居和朋友聚会时,他们会说新年快乐!新年庆祝会历时约半个月.
Christmas in China
Christmas is the most important festival in many western countries. In these countries, people will have about ten days off. Family members get together to celebrate it on December 25th. Nowadays, Christmas is also very popular in China. On Christmas Eve, some young people may give each other presents. Some of them may go to a movie or chatting together. Christmas keeps the shops busy; many stores may give a discount, so many people will go shopping with their friends.
In my opinion, Christmas is not only the birthday of Jesus Christ. It's also a day of getting together, a day of showing consideration, and a day of joy.
Another important tradition which is also my favourite part of the Chinese New Year is the "red pocket" - a small red envelope with some money inside, that married people give to the younger generation. After collecting all my red pockets, I can buy something I like. I normally use the money to buy some new stationery for school, buy some snacks to share with my cousins, buy some fireworks to play with and buy a new bicycle.
Other traditions include a big clean-up day at home 3 days before the 1st New Year day. A big family dinner will normally be held on both Chinese New Year's Eve and the 2nd day of the New Year. On New Year's Eve, everyone will go back to the Husband's side to have dinner and on the other night everyone goes to have dinner on the Wife's side. I still remember the big family dinner at my grandma's house every year, there will be over 40 people there and we enjoy it very very much!
Ok, so let's talk a little bit about the history. In 1911, China started to officially use the Gregorian calendar (the one which everyone uses now), which as we all know splits a year up into 365 days - or the time it takes the earth to orbit the sun. However, the Chinese calendar - which has been in use for about 4000 years - measures a year by the way the moon orbits the earth. One orbit takes about 29 and a half days which is a lunar month. There are 12 lunar months in a year, which makes 354 days in a lunar year. This is why, compared to the normal calendar, the Chinese New Year (also called Lunar New Year) is on a different day each year. In 2004, the Chinese New Year is on January 22. Also, rather than having a leap year, we have a leap month!
In short, I like school holidays, I like Mid-Autumn day better and I like Chinese New Year the most!

The New Year celebrations ended on the 15th of the First Moon with the Lantern Festival. In the legend, the Jade Emperor in Heaven was so angered at a town for killing his favorite goose, that he decided to destroy it with a storm of fire. However, a good-hearted fairy heard of this act of vengeance, and warned the people of the town to light lanterns throughout the town on the appointed day. The townsfolk did as they were told, and from the Heavens, it looked as if the village was ablaze. Satisfied that his goose had already been avenged, the Jade Emperor decided not to destroy the town. From that day on, people celebrated the anniversary of their deliverance by carried lanterns of different shapes and colors through the streets on the first full moon of the year, providing a spectacular backdrop for lion dances, dragon dances, and fireworks
