from where主要有以下两个用法：
1：引导非限制性定语从句，在意义上相当于and from there（从那儿）。

定语从句的本质其实就是把并列句的and去掉，然后用相应的关系代词去替换人称代词、指示代词，用关系副词替换指示副词。

以上问题句中之所以用from where而不用from which,是因为并列句中用的是from there/here, 而不是from this/that/it。道理其实很简单的。

from this place就等于from here。改为从句时则为from which place.或from where

A: from which 中的关系代词which只能代替”一个表示地点/事物的名词，不能代替一个介词短语，有时候无法准确表达一个确切地点状语。
B:from where 中的关系副词where能代替一个“表示确切地点的介词短语”因此能描述一个比较准确地点状语。这个比较准确地点状语是用来说明定语从句谓语动作发生的地点。（即某人在某地干了某事）

(备注，还可以把介词短语当作一个“there”的地点状语来理解，即from where=from there)
