春节是中国民间最隆重传统节日。春节的历史很悠久，它起源于殷商时期年头岁尾的祭神祭祖活动。 传统意义上的春节是指从腊月二十四的祭灶，一直到正月十五。毋庸置疑,除夕和大年初一是整个节日过程中不可或缺的日子。在春节期间，人们会举行各种活动以示庆祝。一般，家家户户都会在除夕夜前采购或置办年货。比如，人们会自己腌制腊肉或风干鳗鱼，挂在窗檐下，待到除夕夜里取下蒸食；还要购买年糕，象征平安吉祥的水果和花生，鞭炮等等。到了除夕，也就是春节里最热闹的日子，人们早上写好对联贴在门上，画好门神以镇邪气；同时，家里的长辈会亲手用毛笔写福字，送给小辈们；另外，家里人都会一起下厨准备年夜饭，切菜、炖汤、炒干果，好不热闹。到了晚上，高潮也就来临了。一家人聚在一起吃年夜饭，共享这一年来丰收的喜悦。饭桌上有两个重头戏：鱼和年糕之类的面食。前者寓意年年有余，后者象征步步高升。饭后，孩子们一起出去放鞭炮，嬉戏玩耍。到了零点，几乎整条街上都会同时燃放炮竹迎新春，刹时街上火红一片，喜气洋洋。第二天，即大年初一，一大早，小辈们就要打扮齐整，去给长辈拜年，祝愿的同时还需给长辈敬茶；长辈们则会回敬祝愿，并且给小辈压岁钱。从大年初一到正月十五前都是每家每户走亲访友，共贺新年的日子。直到正月十五，元宵佳节到，春节的最后一天也就来临了。这一天，人们会烧煮汤团，手拉兔子灯，猜灯谜，游灯会，祥和地度过。春节意味着春天将要来临，万象复苏草木更新，新一轮播种和收获季节又要开始。当新春到来之际，人们充盈在喜悦之中，迎接新一年的挑战，努力赢取新一年的收获。
Spring Festival is the most important traditional folk festival. It has very long history and can be dated back from the sacrificial activities to gods and ancestors in Shang dynasty. Traditionally, Spring Festival begins in sacrifice to kitchen god on December 24th in lunar year and ends on January 15th in lunar year. During the festival, people hold various kinds of activities to celebrate it. In general, every family buy and arrange the special purchases for the festival before the Eve. For example, people make cured meat or air-dry eel by themselves and hang them under the eaves until steaming them for the dinner on New Year’s Eve. People also buy New Year Cake, fruits which embody peaceful and happy life, peanut, firecrackers and so on. Undoubtedly, New Year’s Eve and the lunar New Year’s Day are two critical days in the whole process of festival. On New Year’s Eve, the most bustling and jolly day in the festival, people write down antithetical couplet and draw door-gods to stick on the door of home to suppress evil spirit. Meanwhile, the senior in family will write Fu, a character meaning happiness, in calligraphy, and present the junior. Moreover, families will prepare for the dinner together. Cutting vegetables, stewing a soup, roasting nuts, etc., fill the family with warmth and delight. Till night, the tide comes. The whole family get together to have a dinner to enjoy the joy of one-year harvest. On the table, there are two essential dishes, namely a fish and any relevant snacks like New Year Cake. The former represents having enough grains and to spare every year; the latter means getting higher and higher in career and study. After the dinner, children play with each other or enjoy themselves with playing fireworks. When time arrive in zero, almost the whole alley are full of jubilant red. On the morning of the next day, the lunar New Year’s Day, the junior of a family should pay a New Year visit to the senior and serve tea; the senior will return their best wishes to the junior and give them money as a lunar New Year gift. These days from the lunar New Year’s Day to January 15th in lunar year are almost for people to visit their relatives and friends. The end of Spring Festival is approaching with the coming of the Lantern Festival. People spend the day harmoniously with boiling stuffed dumplings, pulling the rabbit-shaped light along, guessing lantern riddles and visiting lantern exhibition. In conclusion, Spring Festival indicates the coming of spring, revival of the nature and the beginning of sowing seeds.
