你这两个例句中的whole所指不一样.
the whole of the class 中的是一个名词,句子中whole为主语;the whole class 中whole为形容词类,修饰class, 该句中class为主语.
the whole of 翻译为整个,全部, 尤其用于非实物.
例如,the whole of the morning
the whole class, the whole school, the whole country, the whole village 等等之类的表达指的就是all the people in the class, all the people in the school, all the people in the country, all the people in the village, 谓语按照第三人称单数来处理.
