1. 下面是十九世纪后期美国著名隐居女诗人艾米丽·迪更生的一首短诗，意蕴丰厚，短小精悍，只有两节，特别适合朗诵用。迪更生的诗歌绝大多数都是很简短的诗，而且没有标题，根据惯例，往往以诗歌的第一句作为题目。（有的书是编号排序的）下面是该诗的英汉对照版本，仅供参考。

狄更生 （ Emily Dickinson）
(1830.12.10,美国 马萨诸塞州 阿默斯特～1886.5.15,阿默斯特)
美国诗人。祖父是阿默斯特学院的创办人之一，父亲是一位受尊敬的律师，曾担任过一届国会议员。狄更生曾在马萨诸塞州阿默斯特学院和芒特霍利奥克女子神学院求学。终其一生几乎都隐居在阿默斯特家中。19世纪50年代开始写作；到60年代，开始在文字与韵律方面有了创新。她常用的诗体是四行诗抑扬格和新教赞美诗的音步。她的警句简练，没有多余的辞藻，生动、准确。她的诗用简单亲切的词句描写了爱情、死亡和自然。她安静隐居的家庭生活和她诗作中深沉和强烈的词句所形成的对比，引起人们猜测她的性格和她与别人之间的关系。从1870年开始她在家只穿白色服装，很少会客，再也没有离开过自己的宅郏遗留下来的1,775首诗，生前仅发表了7首。去世后出版的作品，使她的声望和读者都大为增加。1955年她的作品全部出版，并被普遍认为是最伟大的美国二三位诗人之一。
