in是针对前面的room而言的。何为“居住”？居住的意思是居住在房子（里），“里”就用in表示。
to live in
在be＋形容词＋不定式结构中，动词不定式结构与句子的主语之间有逻辑上的动宾关系或主谓关系。当其为动宾关系时，动词不定式中的动词应为及物动词或不及物动词加介词构成的相当于及物动词的词组。
例：The man is hard to get along with .那个人很难相处。
(used after vs, adjs and advs 用於动词﹑ 形容词和副词之後)
~ (for sb/sth); ~ (to do sth/for doing sth) to a satisfactory degree; sufficiently 达到满意的程度; 足够地; 充足地
这里，to do sth 修饰被enough修饰的成分，做定语（也就是不定式作定语）
在这个句子中，被修饰就是 the room ，因此，to live / to live in 就是这个做定语的不定式
不定式作定语需要放在被修饰词的后面，如果不定式和被修饰部分构成动宾关系（也就是可以把被修饰成分放到不定式后做宾语），而且是不及物动词，那么在其后就要加上相关的介词
那么回到live 看一下词典
[I, Ipr] make one's home; reside 居住; 住:* live at home, in London, in a flat, abroad 住在家中﹑ 伦敦﹑ 单元房﹑ 国外.
所以，live在这个义项里是不及物动词，所以要在后面加上相应的介词in 改成动宾结构就是 live in the room
如果用的是 to live 就变成了 live the room 不符合语法对吧？
而且，在翻译上也可以看出很明显的差别
The room is big enough for us to live in. 这间屋子足够大了，对我们来说，可以住进去了。
The room is big enough for us to live. 这间屋子足够大了，对我们来说，它可以生活了。
这就是介词产生的差别
