Mandarin has 4 or 5 tones, and Cantonese has 9 tones at least. People whose first language is Cantonese speak Mandarin very tough. But they speak Cantonese just like singing. I think people in Liuzhou (near Guilin, in the south of China) speak Mandarin quite perfect! Though it's not very standard.
