1.The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

死亡笔记最基本的使用方法，也就是让笔记Power On的规则。有了这五小条说明，新手们就可以上路了。

月在第一话就根据这些规则使用了笔记。我们知道名字的月笔下的第一人是音原田九郎（42岁），因杀人后劫持幼儿园被新闻报道，被月好奇地作为笔记的试验品。而贡献了自己的生命帮月真正上路的人是涩井丸拓男，一个骚扰女性的街头流氓，也是在这次，月第一次写上了死因——事故死。

This note shall become the property of the human world, once it touches the ground of (arrives in) the human world.
这本笔记，当它跌落在人世间，它就成了人类的东西。

If the time of death is written within 40 seconds after writing the cause of death as a heart attack，the time of death can be manipulated，and the time can go into effect within 40 seconds after writing the name.

Even if you do not actually possess the DEATH NOTE，the effect will be the same if you can recognize the person and his/her name to place in the blank.

The DEATH NOTE will not affect those under 780 days old.
死亡笔记对出生未满780天的人无效。

Basically all humans are thought to possess the possibility to commit suicide.
It is,therefore,not something "unbelievable to think of".

If you lose the DEATH NOTE or have it stolen，you will lose its ownership unless you retrieve it within 490 days.

当死神直接将死亡笔记交给人类时，不可将笔记交给人间界单位中6岁以下的人类。虽然不可以交给6岁以下的人类，但从丢到人间界的时刻起，笔记就成为人间界之物，无论被多少岁的人类使用，其效果都是一样。

如果只是写上“意外身亡”的死因，而不写上死亡状况，则对象将会在6分40秒之内死于任意的自然意外事故。
如果上述情况仍然有可能牵连他人丧命，则死因会自动变为心肌梗塞。

当在笔记上写上病死，并指定病因和时间，如果这样的病症和时间不足以构成死亡，则对象将在40秒内死于心肌梗塞。
当在笔记上写上病死，未写上病因而指定了时间的话，则会以适应于这个时间的病症死亡。不过，死亡笔记所能操纵的死亡时间只在人类标准约23日以内。这称为“23日规则”。

如果写上病死，指定病因却未写上死亡时间的话，若那个病症需要24日以上才能致人死亡，则“23日规则”失效。此时，对象会在合适的时间内因这个病症而死亡。
如果要重写死因和死亡状况，必须在6分40秒内完成。这种情况下，无论设定的死亡时间为何，都不能更改。

不能用笔记杀死124岁以上的人类。
