　　Born in 1758, Horatio nelson, the son of a pastor, was a small, frail1 child who loved sailing. 　　Nelson was a man of fearless courage and devotion. He believed in his country, in his cause, and in himself. He once said, "I am of the opinion5 that the boldest measures are the safest." Nelson was a man greatly admired by others who said about him, "His frail body housed6 a great spirit."
　　One person with a belief is equal to a force of 99 who only have interest.
　　Beliefs are remarkably powerful in that they are to our lives what a rudder7 is to a ship. That is, they control the direction and destiny of our lives. While we don't always live the life we profess8, we always live the life we believe. Simply put, if I believe I am a failure, I will set myself up to fail. If I believe I am a successful person, I will succeed, and so on.
　　One very successful woman, a well-known entertainer, didn't have much going for her. She would never win a beauty contest and at age 38 was living on welfare. After reading Claude Briston's The Magic of Believing and beginning to believe in herself, her life took a dramatic turn. One gift she had was the ability to make people laugh. Once she believed this, she didn't allow what she didn't have to stop her using what she did have.

The story goes that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.

保洁员,你真了不起
我每天上学都会碰到穿着米灰色的衣服的保洁员，不管是严寒还是酷暑，不管是刮风还是下雨，他每天很早出现在小区的道路上，树林里，楼梯上等各个地方，不厌其烦地打扫着。

有一天，我在上学的路上看见一个二十来岁的青年乱闯红绿灯，交通协管员把他拦下了，语重心长地说道：“年轻人，你知不知道乱闯红绿灯是违反交通规则的？有可能还会引起交通事故，请不要再乱闯红绿灯了。”“他妈的，你这老头是不是吃饱了饭没事干？少管闲事！闯红灯又怎么了？你管得着吗……”那年轻人满脸凶神恶煞，还粗话连篇，叫人听了就会一肚子火往上冒，可那交通协管员看不出他有一丁点儿的生气，反而又来教育他，他从袋里掏出一张照片，对他说：“你看见了吗？这就是去年一个和你差不多年龄的人因为乱闯红灯，导致被一辆卡车压死的照片，现在他们家庭不堪重负，你也想像他们这样？”年轻人听了，迟疑了一下，顿时他的脸涨得像一直熟透了的红苹果，他低下了头，向交通协管员道歉道：“对不起，我不知道竟然闯红灯会产生这么大的后果，真是对不起。”交通协管员笑着摆了摆手，说道：“没事。知错就改还是好人。”

妈妈，你真了不起

我的妈妈在报社工作，她有着敬业的好品质。这一点让我觉得他为十分了不起，我为我有这样的而感到骄傲。
记得有一天晚上我从游泳池回到家已经是晚上11点了，妈妈却还没有回家。我感到有点奇怪：妈妈平常明明7点左右就到家了，就算要加班，现在怎么说也应该到家了呀！这是怎么回事?于是我便问外婆：“外婆，我妈今天怎么这么晚还不回来?” “唉，她今天一定要把5篇稿子改完才能回家，真搞不懂她，明明可以明天来做的事，干嘛一定要提前做完啊！也不考虑考虑自己的健康，真是的！”
听了外婆的话，我不禁被妈妈的行为感动了：妈妈真敬业，这么晚也留在单位工作，真了不起！
那天凌晨1点时，我朦朦胧胧地听到到有人进门的声音，一听，是妈妈！此时此刻，她正拖着疲惫的身躯走向卧室，第二天，她仍然一早起来洗漱完毕，便又去上班了……
我的妈妈对工作一丝不苟、不辞辛苦的敬业精神赢得了同行们的赞赏，还获得了不少荣誉。每当望着妈妈的奖状，我从心中发出由衷的赞叹：妈妈，你真了不起！

初二的时候，非常瘦，而且经常生病发烧、肚子疼等，她的爸爸、妈妈对她很严格，以为她生病发烧、肚子疼是正常的，就给吃药，还要她坚持上学。其实她得的是重病，死神已在她身边徘徊。终于有一天，她倒下了，好的爸爸、妈妈这才慌了，急忙带她到医院检查，一拍X光，她的肚子里居然有两个大肿瘤，她的妈妈的眼泪流了下来：“都怪我们不好，没有把平时发烧、肚子疼当回事儿！”而她听了结果竟然没有哭，她居然还劝慰妈妈。我赶来，听医生讲解，她为什么这么瘦是因为她吃的营养全被肿瘤吸走了，所以肿瘤那么大，而她自己却非常瘦。她要及时开刀，但开刀成功率不是百分百，如果活了，开过刀后要休息一年多。开刀在我心目中是多么可怕呀！ 到了第二个星期，我来看望她，她已经开院刀躺在病床上了，她皱着眉壮举，手一个劲儿地搓着被子。我想：“她一定很疼！”谁知紧接着开刀，又有一个灾难等待着她。刀开完了，还要进行化疗。化疗使她更瘦了，她胃口不香，还要呕吐，黑而亮的头发像秋天落叶脱落了。她的爸爸、妈妈看在眼里疼在心里。 她细小垂危的生命终于从死神的手里逃出来了，她健康了！医生说开刀要休息一年多，那她就落下了一年多课，怎么办？她急哭了。经过劝说她平静下来，不能上学校就在家里自学。 她还告诉我她的刀口有6—7厘米长，我听了目瞪口呆。她在生病的时候还写过一篇日记，内容是：黑、黑、黑，到处都是黑，自从我掉进死海里，我就不见天日，我听见海上亲人在呼唤我，我就想：“我不能死，我要活下来！”我就一个劲儿地住上游，终于有一天，我见到了天日，见到亲人，啊！我从死神的手里逃出来了！这时，我想起了一名话，乐观的人先战胜自我再战胜生活；一个悲观的人先打败自我再打败生活。说不定，在乐观人的眼里，不可能的事也变可能了；在悲观人的眼里，可能的事也变的不可能了。 啊，姐姐，你真了不起，你战胜了自我，战胜了生活。我佩服你的镇定、勇敢、乐观的精神，它们鼓舞了我前进！

爸爸，你真了不起

我以往认为爸爸是个非常平凡的人，但通过一件事让我发自内心地觉得——爸爸，你真了不起！

我的爸爸是一个长相普通的人，眼睛小小的，从远处看上去像是绿豆似的，但是他的视力可好了。他脸上总是笑眯眯的，有1米8的大高个儿，体重只有可怜的55公斤，都跟我妈妈不相上下。

爸爸虽然长相不是很帅气，但却是一个非常聪明的人，这正是我佩服他的原因之一啦！

一个风和日丽的早晨，我正在做奥数老师布置的题目，刚开始我的笔还在本子上飞快地写着，但是接着就渐渐地慢了下来，越到后面这些题目好似一座巨大的山压了下来，我反复思考怎么也想不出解题的方法，好似热窝上的蚂蚁急得团团转。

突然我想到了爸爸，平时他总是嘲笑我，这下让我也来考考他。“爸爸，我想请教你一道题。”我朝着书房的方向叫道。不一会儿，爸爸走了出来：“什么题目啊？”我急忙指给他看，爸爸看了一眼，便拿出一本厚厚的笔记本开始了他的计算。不过一会儿，爸爸放下了手中的笔笑了：“滢滢，这题要……”爸爸用手指着他那那长长的计算过程，用简洁的语言给我讲着，讲到关键的地方，他摸摸我的头说：“我们的聪明女儿听了我这个笨爸爸的话，一定会自己做出来的，你再试试看吧！”

由于爸爸讲得很清楚，使我受到了很大的启发，再加上他的鼓励，我一步一步终于把难题解决了，心里像吃了蜜糖一样的高兴，爸爸在一旁看着像吃了“点头丸”似的一个尽儿地点头，那样子谁见了都会笑出声来。

这就是我的爸爸，我想对他说——你真了不起！

同学，你真了不起

五（4）班 蔡梦婷

在我们班里，可有个重量级人物——许渊。他的力气非凡，能在5秒之内举起一个大水桶，他还有一个了不起的特点，是什么呢？往下读，你就知道了。

时间飞快地流逝着，每学期一次的体育嘉年华活动开始了！上午是自由活动，下午是各项的比赛项目。

“加油啊，加油啊！”拔河比赛即将开始了！老师选了一些人，其中就有我，我兴奋不已，这时老师又微笑着说：“这次老师还安排了许渊参加，放在最后，他的力气最大，同学们觉得怎么样？”老师的话音刚落。同学们就相互讨论了起来，有的不服气的说：“许渊啊，力气都没我大，还不如选我呢！”有的大声说：“就是就是，他只是肥了点，力气其实一点也没有。”还有的一本正经地说：“老师，绝对不行，他块头太大，没准一会儿就摔了怎么办？”同学们真是议论纷纷……这些讽刺的话语深深拍打着许渊的心，此时他的脸已经涨得通红，牙齿紧咬着嘴唇，不好意思地低下了头。老师见此不妙，忙说：“你们别说了，如果人家这样说你，想想会不会很难过呢？”大家这才安静了下来。突然，许渊的肚子撕心裂肺地疼痛。老师当场宣布许渊因肚子疼痛不能为班级参加比赛,另选其人。“不，我也要为班级出一份力。”他坚定地说。这句话感动了在场的老师和同学。老师不得不让许渊参加了比赛。

拔河比赛开始了！跟我们班比的是五（2）班。双方进行了激烈的“斗争”。许渊虽然肚子痛，但他为了班级，拼命地拉呀拉，汗水像一串串珍珠般流下，即使是汗水浸湿了双眼，他也不管不顾。他这种精神鼓舞了许多同学，带给他人无穷的力量，就算皮肤渗出了血也在所不惜。他的顽强，他的努力为我们班级增添一个第一名啊！

许渊为班级增添荣誉的精神，让我深感敬佩！许渊，你真了不起！

If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference.

It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled -- Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

It's the answer that led those who have been told for so long by so many to be cynical, and fearful, and doubtful of what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.

But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to: It belongs to you.

I know you didn't do this just to win an election and I know you didn't do it for me. You did it because you understand the enormity （being huge）of the task that lies ahead. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime -- two wars, a planet in peril（danger）, the worst financial crisis in a century. Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how they'll make the mortgage（抵押）, or pay their doctor's bills, or save enough for college. There is new energy to harness （create）and new jobs to be created; new schools to build and threats to meet and alliances（联盟） to repair.

The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep（陡峭的）. We may not get there in one year or even one term（任期）, but America -- I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you: We as a people（民族） will get there.

There will be setbacks（挫折） and false starts（不成功的开端）. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy （政策）I make as President, and we know that government can't solve every problem. But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And above all, I will ask you join in the work of remaking（重塑） this nation the only way it's been done in America for two-hundred and twenty-one years -- block by block, brick by brick, calloused（变硬的） hand by calloused hand.

What began twenty-one months ago in the depths of winter must not end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek（寻求）. It is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. It cannot happen without you.

So let us summon（鼓起） a new spirit of patriotism（爱国主义）; of service and responsibility （责任）where each of us resolves（决心） to pitch（投入） in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. Let us remember that if this financial crisis taught us anything, it's that we cannot have a thriving（兴旺的） Wall Street while Main Street suffers. In this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people.

Let us resist the temptation（抵制诱惑） to fall back on（退回） the same partisanship（党派偏见） and pettiness（小气） and immaturity（不成熟） that has poisoned（毒化） our politics for so long. Let us remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner（旗帜） of the Republican Party to the White House -- a party founded（建立） on the values of（建立在。。。价值观上） self-reliance（自立）, individual liberty（个人自由）, and national unity（国家团结）. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility（适度的谦卑） and determination（决心） to heal the divides（弥和分歧） that have held back（阻碍） our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, "We are not enemies, but friends...though passion（热情） may have strained（干涸） it must not break our bonds of affection（爱的纽带）." And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn（还未赢得） -- I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.

And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled（拥挤） around radios in the forgotten corners of our world -- our stories are singular（单数）, but our destiny（命运） is shared, and a new dawn（黎明） of American leadership is at hand（到来）. To those who would tear（撕） this world down -- we will defeat you. To those who seek（寻求） peace and security（安全） -- we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon（灯塔） still burns as bright -- tonight we proved（证明） once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might（力量） of our arms（武器） or the scale（等级） of our wealth, but from the enduring（不朽的） power of our ideals（理想）: democracy（民主）, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding（不屈的） hope.

For that is the true genius（天才） of America -- that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.

She was born just a generation past slavery（奴隶制）; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons: because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin.

And tonight, I think about all that she's seen throughout her century in America -- the heartache and the hope; the struggle（挣扎） and the progress; the times we were told that we can't, and the people who pressed on with（决心继续） that American creed（信条）: Yes we can.

At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed（消失）, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. Yes we can.

When there was despair（绝望） in the dust bowl and depression（沮丧） across the land, she saw a nation conquer（征服） fear itself with a New Deal（罗斯福新政）, new jobs and a new sense of common purpose. Yes we can.

When the bombs fell on our harbor （港口）and tyranny（暴政） threatened（威胁） the world, she was there to witness（见证） a generation rise（崛起） to greatness and a democracy was saved. Yes we can.

She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses（水龙带？） in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher（传教士） from Atlanta who told a people that "We Shall Overcome（克服）." Yes we can.

A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination. And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change. Yes we can.

America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves -- if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made?

This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time -- to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity（恢复繁荣） and promote（促进） the cause（事业） of peace; to reclaim（开垦） the American Dream and reaffirm（重申） that fundamental truth（基本的真理） -- that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism（遭遇玩世不恭）, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed（信条） that sums up（ 鼓起）the spirit of a people:
