pep talk
鼓舞士气的话。To give somebody a pep talk that means you talk to somebody in an intention of cheering them up or encouraging them.
1. My boss gave me a great pep talk before the big meeting. I think it really helped me close the deal.

pawn sth / sb off on sb
意思是把自己不愿意要的东西或人推给别人。

pass
第一个意思是：give传递。第二个意思是“超越”的意思。第三个意思是: succeed in doing 成功干成什么事情，成功通过什么事情，

因为这是一条通向权力的道路，我总是希望能做一些很重要的决定。
power trip
自我膨胀，自大，有点不知道自己是谁了。

有两个意思，going many places in a very short period of time, 在很短的时间去了很多地方，到处奔波。第二个意思是cheat on somebody, 欺骗某，也可表示沾花惹草。

roll
走,离开，动身。
1. If the waitress doesn’t take our order soon,we’re rolling.
如果服务员再不给我们点菜的话，我们要走了。
2. I don’t like this dance club.Let’s roll.
我不喜欢这个舞厅，咱们走吧。
right under someone's nose
就在某人面前而却没有注意。
1. I couldn’t find my book but it was right under my nose the whole time.
我找不到我的书，但其实呢，它一直都在我的眼皮底下。
2. The solution to the problem was right under his nose but he didn’t realize it.
解决这个问题的方法，就在他的眼皮底下，不过他就是没有意识到。
ride out
安然度过，经受住，捱过。耐住性子等待。
1. We are going to have to ride out this rain at the office.
我们不得不在办公室里等待雨停。
2. Bob was determined to become a CEO，even if he had to ride out a few years in lower positions at the company.
鲍伯下定决心一定要当CEO，尽管他知道他需要在公司里面比较低下等的职位捱上几年。
rendezvous
是个法语，意思是在特定的时间和地点集合。To meet at specified time and place.
1. They weren’t allowed to be seen together, so they made a rendezvous for Wednesday afternoons.
他们被不允许见面，因此他们约定每周三下午偷偷见面.
2. Let’s rendezvous tonight for some drinks.
让我们今晚一块出去喝几杯吧.
relief
如释重负，忧虑或痛苦减轻了。
1. It was such a relief that our exam was postponed.
我们的考试被推迟了，大家轻松了不少。
2. When Manceester scored a goal in the last minute it was a relief for all their fans.
曼彻斯特对在最后一分钟的时候打进了一个球，他们所有的球迷都觉得松了一口气。
rehearse
排练、彩排,演习，预演
1. We hadn’t rehearsed often enough so I forgot my lines.
我们两个排练得根本不够，所以我忘了我的台词。
2. The play rehearsal is on at 4pm today.
今天下面四点钟那个剧目要彩排。
Ready to roll?
相当于Are you ready to go？"roll" here means "go".它的意思是“你准备好了吗，我们可以启程了吗，我们可以干什么事情了吗？”

2. Thank God，everbody is on the set on time.Ready to roll？

rapport
融洽，和谐。
1. My college roommate and I lived together for one year,but we never got on very well.I was never able to build up any rapport with him.

2. Everyone at my office has a very good rapport we enjoy working together.

R and R
是"rest and relaxation"地缩写，意思是放松一下，休息一下。
1. Henry has been working too hard recently. He really needs some R and R.
亨瑞最近工作很辛苦，他真的需要放松一下，去休假。
2. I can’t wait for Spring Festival，I’m going to visit my parents and get some R and R.
我真的是等不到春节了，我要回家探望父母，顺便休息一下。
sweet talk
甜言蜜语。
1. Watch out for Rob.He’s always using sweet talk to try to get a date.
你要小心罗布，他总是在利用甜言蜜语引诱女孩子和他约会。
2. The salesman sweet talked me into buying the newest cell phone.
这个推销员用花言巧语哄我买了这部新款手机。
sweet
形容人很好，真不错。
1. I’m a very sweet son.Althorgh I’m busy at work,I visit my parents every day.
我是个非常好的儿子，虽然我工作很忙，但是我每天都要去看看父母。
2. She was very sweet and bought me flowers and took me out to dinner for my birthday.
我过生日的时候，她给我买了花，还请我出去吃饭，她太好了。
sweat
为某事而担心或沮丧。
1. He is sweating his exams. He knows he hasn’t studied enough.
他一直为他的考试而担心，因为他心里面明白他没有准备好。
2. We’ll definitely beat them next time around so don’t sweat it that we lost today.
我们今天失利了，不过不用灰心丧气，下一次我们一定会赢。
swear an oath
发誓。
1. In court you have to swear an oath that you will tell the truth.
在法庭上你必须发誓自己说的一切话都是真的。
2. In Britain the army swears an oath of allegiance to the Queen。
在英国战士们必须发誓将永远效忠英国女王。

stunt
特技。It means that to do something dangerous as challenge or to entertain people. Actually it can also mean “to do something silly or stupid”. 作为动词使用的搭配是“pull a stunt”。
1. I don’t like it when you drive your motorcycle really fast. I’m not interested in those kinds of stunts.
我不喜欢你把摩托车开得这么快，我不喜欢这些耍惊险的花活儿。
2. Everything by the book, no stunts and no wrecks today, all right?
今天不要太出格，一切小心行事，知道吗？
stuff
To stuff sth, 狼吞虎咽地吃，吃得很快，很不雅观。
1. A: Are you hungry?
B: I could stuff a whole chicken down my stomach right now.
你饿吗？
我现在可以吞下一只整鸡.
2. she stuffed them in her mouth all at once.
她一口就把它们吞下去了
Straight up!
It means that absolutely or correct.它表示完全正确，说得完成对。在很正式的场合不要用straight up。
sth just doesn't add up
即使考虑了所有的因素，还是觉得没道理，即百思不得其解。
1. I went through the entire experiment again and something just doesn’t add up.
我把整个实验又做了一遍，可是结果还是百思不得其解。
stay on sth
以某种形式跟住或密切关注某人或某事。坚持做某事，保持某种状态。
1. Please stay on this case. I don’t want to lose it.
这个案子你给我盯紧了，我可不想输掉。
2. There’s the car. Let’s stay on it and see where it goes.
那个车在那里，我们跟着它，看它往哪儿开。
stay cool
保持镇静,冷静一点。It means that stay relaxed and in control of your emotions。
1. When we go to the party tonight, stay cool. You don’t want the ladies to think you’re a geek.

将某事敲定，确定下来。如确认计划或安排，确保一切准备就绪。

spin
编故事,杜撰。
1. It’s amazing the way some reporters spin stories in order to make them more interesting.
一些记者杜撰故事的方法真是可笑。
2. Politicians often spin stories to get elected.

spill
倾诉某事，或泄漏机密。To spill sth means that to disclose or reveal personal information.
1. Jenny was so upset about the fight she had with her husband. She had to spill all the details to her mother.

做事神神秘秘，鬼鬼祟祟的人。
