Nowadays, with the rapid development of science and technology, people's living standards has been greatly improved and various demands are growing constantly. Portable mobile devices with Android system are popular for their convenience and numerous functions. Among all the functions, GPS plays a vital role in our daily life. More and more apps are developed for GPS and they gradually become an indispensable part of our life. For us, students of Suzhou University, it is necessary to develop a campus navigation APP for our own university.
With the usage of Eclipse, Android SDK Package and Baidu Map API, it is easy to develop the app because of strong map support provided by Baidu and multiple functional interface. The app can do not only precise position, keyword search and shortcut plan, but also surrounding exploration and real-time update by calling the GPS hardware. With this app, current students and the future ones can get to know and know about Suzhou University so that they can enjoy an easy and happy campus life.
The first section in this paper talks about Android app design for Suzhou University campus navigation system based on GPS, the feasibility and significance of this project, and basic structure and development methods of Android. The second section deals with how to configure Eclipse with Android environment and how to apply to use Baidu Map API. As for the design aspect, there will be a demand analysis, including functional and non-functional, in order to clarify design ideas and present a basic interface design. A detailed instruction will then be put forward on how to realize the systematic interface design and block design for the programme. Finally, a test of the very APP will be conducted on mobile devices. The conclusion will be summarized in the end.
