我说一下：
1. 选C ， Dr.Smith 是压力研究领域的著名专家，故第一空应泛指“他是该领域的一名著名专家”；后一空，因为research是抽象名词，故其前不用冠词，do research做研究，搞研究。
2. 选alone ,意思是：“独特的，独一无二的，惟一的，无双的” ，作为形容词，alone 一般用于其修饰的词后面. only从意思上讲是通的，但位置有问题。而其余两个是副词，不能修饰名词。后一部分的意思“独一无二的建筑物使你的参观很值得。”
3. 选thus,意思 “因此，因而”，而且后面有doing,（reducing）这也是它的明显用法，而其它三个无此用法。
