Regardless of your chosen resume template, you should have

appropriate contact information. At the very least, this would

include name, mailing address, telephone number, e-mail

address. Additional information can be provided if it fits in with

the overall resume template and objective.

Objective
In most resume templates, the objective is optional. I have

often noticed that fresh graduates tend to list an objective. If

your resume template includes an objective, make it narrow

and focused. Hence, an objectives like To get a suitable job

in a high growth sector is not a good idea. Everyone wants a

good job. That much is obvious.

Education
If you are a fresh graduate, your resume template should

highlight your education. You could include considerable detail

in the education section especially if other sections do not have

much to talk about. However, if you have a lot of work experi-

ence, your resume template should keep the education section

to the bare minimum facts. Otherwise you run the risk of over-

shadowing your work experience.

Experience
This is usually the most important section of your resume temp-

late. When listing work experience, focus on what you accomp-

lished, rather than on what you did. The difference can be a thin

line in some cases. For instance:

Honors and Awards
Though not a common section, it is a good idea to include it in

your resume template. The only question you need to ask your-

self is - Do you have something important to say? If you have a

couple of important achievements then including this section in

your resume template is worthwhile.

Hobbies
This is definitely an optional section and most resume templates

do not include a separate section for hobbies. Usually hobbies

can be mentioned in the Other section. One situation in which

your resume template should have a hobbies section would be

if your hobbies are very time intensive. A prospective recruiter

or college should know that you intend to spend a lot of time on

hobbies.

Other
If there is more stuff that you would like to mention, you can

include additional sections in your resume format. However, if

additional sections do not feel appropriate, the Other section

can be included in your resume template. Some examples of

what you can include are:
• Knowledge of multiple languages
• International Travel
• Volunteer work
• Mention in the media...

The above sections are part of a general resume template.

Depending upon the situation, you could include additional

sections in your resume template. For instance:
• If your resume is very long, your resume template could in-

clude a Summary section right in the beginning.
• If you have published several articles, your resume template

could have a Publications section...
