哪位英语高手翻译此句"For Once, Then, Something"
这属于翻译技巧。在翻译中，经常可以根据前面的动词意思来确定后面的名词词意。
当知道一些事情的同时我们也失去了一些东西。
有一次，那时，有某种东西这里的something指的是那个白色的东西，就是太阳光的反射，别人不是告诉他不要往井里看吗，否则，阳光回闪眼睛的，但他看了，不过他的赶受并不是闪眼睛，而是truth, a pebble of quartz,这些东西可都是好东西呀。也就是说有时人们叫你不要干这，不要干那的，但事实上也一些美好的东西就这样被人们错过了。就是叫人看事情不能光看表面，残碚胬砭驮滩卦谀承┎槐蝗嗣撬�邮艿亩�骼铩?
想起了一句话，乐观的人眼睛看到的是炸面圈，而悲观的人的眼睛里看到的却只是个窟窿，一个东西在不同的人眼中所呈现的景色是不一样的。
我又仔细的想了一下，之所以作者用something,就是因为这是他自己无法确定这种感觉，你没看他结尾一个劲用问号吗？因为大家都不叫他看，可以把大家理解成世俗的一些陈旧的观念，他自己的本意是想打破陈规的，但是有似乎不想直说，而等着读者自己最终下结论。但作者渴望的回答一定是....不用说了吧

I discerned, as I thought, beyond the picture,
Through the picture, a something white, uncertain,

Water came to rebuke the too clear water.
One drop fell from a fern, and lo, a ripple
Shook whatever it was lay there at bottom,
Blurred it, blotted it out. What was that whiteness?

同意popcorn0421的一些看法，但是他在翻译的时候还是选择了直译，即便他做出了解释，也看不出来，体味不到！
其实作者确实经历了一番，才有所体会的。知道了和别人说的不一样。所以她说言的 something，其实是心理面的真实体会，确有所言。
只是作为诗歌，把这个留给了读者，“一千个读者眼里就有一千个Hamlet”。所以作者用了 What was that whiteness?
Truth? A pebble of quartz? 这几个文句来反复强调 something的性质。来指代同一性质的something.
而且从then所处的语境来看，虽然可以翻译成那个时候，但是then 同样可以做为一种因果连接。就是因为那次(for once)，所以才有了something，得到了真实体会。
我本来想处理成 “若是，便是，它”。同样，“它”也是泛指同类性质的，能很好对应something。
