sample和example这两个单词用法上的区别是：指代不同、用法不同、侧重点不同
一、指代不同
1、sample：指同类东西中的一个样品，尤其指商业中的货样，还有一个意思“体验”。
例句：
Show me a sample, please.
请拿一个样品给我看看。
2、example：指同类事物中举出一个具有代表性或者典型的“例子”，还有一个意思“警告”，也就是明确告诉我们了，这个例子可以是好的正面典型，也可以是不好的反面典型。
例句：
It is a classic example of how not to design a new city centre.
这对设计新市中心是个最佳的反面教材。

二、用法不同
1、sample既可用作名词，也可以用作不及物动词和及物动词。用作及物动词时，常接物作宾语。
2、example可用作名词，不及物动词，通常多用于教育中。
三、侧重点不同
1、sample侧重于指”样品、样本“。指从某一群体中选取出来的一部分人或事物，以供检验并发现有关该群体的信息。
2、example侧重于指“例子、事例”。指用来解释、支持某一概括性观点或代表某个群体特点的具体的人、事物等。
