一、 “only 副词”位于句首。如：
1、Only then did I realize that I was wrong.

二、“only+介词短语”位于句首。如：
1、Only by working hard can you succeed.

2、Only when the war was over in 1918 was he able to get back to work．

四、only和所修饰的状语如果不在句首，则不倒装。如：
The boy was helped out only when his father arrived in a hurry．（不倒装）
当他父亲匆忙赶到时，这个男孩才被解救出来。
五、only＋主语通常不用倒装结构。例如：
1、Only the teachers are allowed to use the room．（不倒装）
只有老师们允许用这个房间。
2、Only five men were hurt in the accident．（不倒装）
只有五个人在事故中受伤。
六、若位于句首的不是only+状语，而是 only+宾语等，则通常无需倒装(但有时也可以倒装)。如：
1、Only a policeman the children saw in the street. （不倒装）
孩子们在街上只看到一个警察。
