1.哈利被邀请到霍格沃茨学校，成为了巫师学校的一名学生。得知魔法石受到威胁，他与罗恩赫敏历经各种机关最后使魔法石没有落到伏地魔的手中。

2.哈利受到小精灵多比的阻止后仍回到学校，学校发生了一系列“恐怖”事件—学生莫名其妙被石化，墙上出现了恐怖的血字...人们怀疑是蛇怪所为，但偏偏哈利会蛇语。原来是伏地魔把自己年轻时的灵魂碎片保存与日记中，利用日记控制了罗恩的小妹妹金妮。哈利通过赫敏的指引进入密室，在邓不利多凤凰的帮助下用格兰芬多剑杀死了蛇怪，毁灭了日记本，解救了金妮。

3.得知阿兹卡班罪犯小天狼星逃出监狱，而哈利等人在去霍格莫德时无意中听到是小天狼星背叛了哈利的父母，使其遭到了伏地魔的杀害。后来小天狼星出现，点明了事情真相-他没有被判哈利的父母，而是小矮星彼得背叛后将一切罪名转移到了他的身上。后来哈利等人利用时间转换器解救了被发现关在学校的小天狼星。

4.哈利没有报名参加“三强争霸赛”却意外地成为了三强争霸赛的第四名勇士。哈利历经种种困难与同校的塞德里克一起赢得了奖杯，结果却是一个阴谋--奖杯是一个门钥匙，把2人带到了伏地魔的所在地。塞德里克被伏地魔杀害，食死徒拿到伏地魔复活魔法的材料—敌人（哈利）的血。伏地魔复活后哈利与伏地魔决斗，出现闪回咒（两人的魔杖芯来自同一只凤凰，在战斗中出现的现象），哈利得以脱逃。

5.没有人相信伏地魔回来，哈利被认为是个骗子，只有他的朋友们相信并支持着他。学校来了一名监督官，并成为了黑魔法防御术的老师。此人不教学生任何实用的东西，并且任意开除学校教师且体罚学生（岂止是体罚..折磨！）哈利于伙伴们组建邓不利多军来抵抗（哈利在平安夜与其中的一名成员-他暗恋的女孩秋张接吻）。但到后来他中了伏地魔的诡计，与朋友们来到魔法部解救教父小天狼星，与食死徒战斗时教父得到情报来解救哈利，结果被食死徒（他的堂姐！！）的昏迷咒击中落入死刑室的帷幔。就这样去世了。邓不利多赶来，哈利得救。全世界都相信了伏地魔的归来，监督官停职审查。

6.哈利有了一个新的魔药课教师。哈利受到旧教材上的笔记指引成为了魔药天才，而书上注明该书属于混血王子。哈利与邓不利多一起消灭魂器，结果邓不利多受到了很大伤害。食死徒趁乱攻入学校，而斯内普（哈利的前魔药教授，哈利一直不喜欢他）杀死了邓不利多，在逃走时告诉哈利自己是混血王子。
