燃烧成功的欲望


　　The motivation to succeed comes from the burning desire to achieve a purpose. Napoleon Hill wrote, "Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve."
　　A young man asked Socrates the secret to success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river. When the water got up to their neck, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked(vt. 将……猛按入水) him into the water. The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue. Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp(vi.喘息) and take a deep breath of air. Socrates asked, "What did you want the most when you were there?" The boy replied, "Air." Socrates said, "That is the secret to success. When you want success as badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it.There is no other secret."
　　A burning desire is the starting point of all accomplishment. Just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results.

A strong earthquake struck Wenchuan, Sichuan Province on May 12,
2008. People in disaster-stricken area have suffered a lot. Misery of
losing home as well as family members have thrown them into deep sorrow.
Seeing the photos on the Internet and newspapers, I kept asking myself,
“What can I do to help them lessen their burden?”
Like many other
classmates, I’ve donated all the money I save and I’ve also given away
many books and stationary in order to help those children who now aren’t
able to go to school. Besides, I’ve written some letters to the kids at
my age, trying to encourage them and cheer them up.
Blood is
thicker than water. Though the earthquake is merciless, people in every
corner of our country are all eager to give a helping hand. I strongly
believe that where there is love, there is a way. Hand in hand, heart
with heart, we Chinese people shall overcome all the difficulties and
brand new homes shall be rebuilt soon.

>Strong aftershock hits town
映秀镇今再遭强烈余震
Yingxiu Town in Wenchuan County was hit by a strong aftershock this morning, leading to the collapse of houses and landslides at a nearby mountain. 2/3 of the houses in Yingxiu were destroyed Monday.
汶川县映秀镇15日上午再次发生强烈余震，上次地震中未倒塌的房屋出现倒塌，附近山体滑坡。映秀镇在12日的大地震中损失惨重，2/3房屋被毁。

As of 8:00 am Thursday, police had pulled more than 5500 earthquake survivors from the debris. Elsewhere more than 50000 people had been evacuated from Wenchuan and other badly hit regions including Dujiangyan, Beichuan and Maoxian in Sichuan and Longnan in Gansu.

The Ministry of Communications has begun to move rescue teams to the worst quake-hit areas by a waterway from Zipingpu Reservoir in Dujiangyan. Reports say that army troops have opened a water route and transported more than 800 people this morning. In addition, the highway linking Beichuan with Mianyang was broken through, allowing heavy rescue machines to enter Beichuan.

BOCOG said that the Olympic torch relay will join in earthquake relief activities around China in the coming months. In Jiangxi, participants observed a minute of silence for the victims before the relay. The torch relay finished the Jinggangshan leg Thursday, and will take place in Nanchang tomorrow.

On May 12th ,a powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale has attacked the village which was called Wenchuan in Sichuan Province.

I surfed the Internet from morning till night to see what were happening in that place. I fell very distressed that when I saw the pictures .The whole villages were wiped out by the terrible earthquake. Hundreds of people lost their lives or were rendered homeless. But fortunately, millions of people home or broad have given freely in response to the appeal for the victims of the earthquake.

I hope all of us can try our best to help the victims out of this terrible disaster as soon as possible.

China is a great nation ! Chinese are all great people ! Great Chinese must defeat all the difficulties they meet at last !
