more than one直接做主语时,谓语用单数还是复数?

"more than one..."作主语时，谓语动词单数还是复数形式~

用作主语时，谓语却习惯上用单数。如：
More than one man has been dismissed. 不止一人被解雇了。
More than one person is involved in this. 与此事有牵连的人不止一个。

我觉得应该是用复数的

因为它明显表达的是复数概念，

而且不符合几个常见的谓语动词就近修饰的情况，这样的情况比如：
not only A but also B;
either...or...;
neither...nor...;
...or...;
...nor...

出现这些短语时，谓动与后面的主语保持一致，即所谓的“就近修饰”。
