Legend has it that in ancient times,there was a year when ten suns appeared in the sky,causing the Earth to crack,the seas to dry up,and people to lose hope for survival.The hero Hou Yi was determined to save the people.He ascended to the top of Kunlun Mountain,summoned his divine strength,drew his divine bow,and shot down nine of the ten suns.
He also commanded the remaining sun to rise and set at its proper time,bringing prosperity back to the land.
Chang'e,the wife of Hou Yi,secretly consumed an elixir and flew to the moon after he had shot down the nine suns,becoming an immortal in the Moon Palace.To commemorate Chang'e,Hou Yi would host a feast and admire the moon in her favorite garden every year.
